Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday described the SAD-BJP alliance's victory in the city municipal corporation election as "historic" and said it will prove as a "trendsetter" for ensuring back to back victory for the alliance for the third consecutive term in the upcoming state Assembly polls.
The BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal received a shot in the arm ahead of Punjab Assembly polls with their alliance winning 21 out of 26 seats in the Chandigarh municipal corporation elections on Tuesday. The victory gains prominence as it comes on the heels of demonetisation decision on 8 November which was a key issue raised by both the BJP and Congress in this polls.
Badal termed the win as a "trailer", and said that the complete film would emerge after the "spectacular victory" of the alliance in the upcoming assembly polls.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Akali patriarch said, "This result (MC polls) would prove as a trendsetter for ensuring back to back victory of the alliance for the third consecutive term in the state."
Badal said the massive mandate in favour of "pro-people policies and solid performance" of BJP at the Centre under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has silenced the opposition for unleashing "malicious propaganda to defame the government."
An exuberant Badal congratulated all the workers and leaders of the SAD-BJP alliance and said that the alliance would repeat the feat in the 2017 Assembly polls.
