Tirupati: Five bodies were discovered in an irrigation tank in neighbouring Kadapa district, police said.

The bodies, in a decomposed state, were found floating in the tank at Vontimitta village, about 120 kilometres away, indicating they might have died at least a couple days ago, police said.

Police, on being alerted by the locals, retrieved the bodies and were carrying out a search of the tank.

The bodies were yet to be identified and police in neighbouring states of Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had been alerted, they said.

Police said they were also probing the angle whether the men were part of red sanders smuggling gang.
