New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar’s plea for extension of time till 30 January to surrender, after being recently sentenced to life imprisonment in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The high court said it saw no ground for granting the relief. [caption id=“attachment_2994974” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Sajjan Kumar. File photo. The case relates to killing of five Sikhs in Raj Nagar part-I area in Palam Colony in South West Delhi on 1-2 November, 1984, and burning down of a Gurudwara in Raj Nagar part II during that period. The riots had broken out after the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi on 31 October, 1984 by her two Sikh bodyguards. On Monday, the Delhi High Court had sentenced the former Congress leader Kumar to life imprisonment, reversing the acquittal granted to him by a trial court in 2013. As per the official records, over 2,700 Sikhs were killed across India after the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh.
