Almost all leading IT companies that sell to Government (IBM, HP, Oracle, Microsoft etc) have similar positions where the wonk is typically an ex-Nasscom or ex-Dept of Information Technology type of a person whose job is to influence the formation of govt IT policy thereby enabling the inclusion of that company in the govt tender. We are all aware of the huge public spat between Microsoft and Google over Open Data Format which eventually Google won. Also, Govt of India is coming down hard on free speech on the Internet through its new policy aimed at regulating (muzzling) web content in the name of “objectionable content”. Therefore, Facebook is just being proactive in getting someone quickly on board who will be responsible of managing the govt, fire fighting and keeping Facebook generally out of the harm’s way. As I usually say, what China does in the name of censorship, India does in the name of terrorism. In present case when a good number of persons are yet to charge sheeted, the presumption that if these ate released on bail will temper the evidence does not hold good by any standards of reasonable thinking.The law of land must prevail. As such we can only pray to courts to consider our humble submissions regarding segregation of under trial and convicted persons. In one month or 20 working days, that is Rs.2000 cr. In 12 months, that is Rs. 24,000 cr. In 5 years, that is 120,000 cr. Enough to build metro networks in 8-10 cities or provide mid-day meals to every child in school or (you name it). Hence, while Facebook keeps its page open for profiles and corporate pages, it would be great to educate the Indian internet savvy urban or semi-urban masses on what is Social media marketing. If it comes from the horses mouth, it would be accepted more. Further, in any communication addressed to India, it is important to keep the social values practiced in India, in mind and to always be polite.
