Posting back - our daily comment selection

This is our daily selection of comments and responses to our content across our article comment section, Twitter and Facebook. There was a lot of insightful response to the KP interview we ran last night, as well as the story on Mahindra Satyam investors. Thank you once again for your continuing engagement with the site. Via @firstpostin @Vishnaum @firstpostin KP is already living dead. He can’t speak on his own. He is now just a “His Master’ voice” (Rajapakshe) @tvinodkumar LTTE leader KP apologizes for Rajiv Gandhi assassination. Too little too late bro. On Articles: twanoo Though the job is euphemistically titled as Public Policy Director, speaking from a Govt point of view it is actually a mix of sales + crisis management + PR jobs rolled into one. Its an extremely critical assignment for a company that is in the business of social networking. However, Facebook is not the first company to hire for such a position. Almost all leading IT companies that sell to Government (IBM, HP, Oracle, Microsoft etc) have similar positions where the wonk is typically an ex-Nasscom or ex-Dept of Information Technology type of a person whose job is to influence the formation of govt IT policy thereby enabling the inclusion of that company in the govt tender. We are all aware of the huge public spat between Microsoft and Google over Open Data Format which eventually Google won. Also, Govt of India is coming down hard on free speech on the Internet through its new policy aimed at regulating (muzzling) web content in the name of “objectionable content”. Therefore, Facebook is just being proactive in getting someone quickly on board who will be responsible of managing the govt, fire fighting and keeping Facebook generally out of the harm’s way. As I usually say, what China does in the name of censorship, India does in the name of terrorism. But now terrorist attacks on the wane in the country, India also is forced to take the censorship route to regulate the Internet.   Posted on Facebook on the hunt for Indian policy wonks Rajeshchander Hope that visits of these VIPS to jail will improve the condition for under trials. There is a great difference between a under trial person and a convicted person and a person whose appeal against conviction is pending before the higher court. Under trials must be treated with respect by the authorities. She may be able to prove her case at a later date.Denial of bail even after furnishing adequate guarantee to court and after agreeing to conditions which may be imposed by court is much bigger crime and this is root cause of 50 % corruption in courts. The Hon’ble Supreme Court must frame transparent rules for bail of under trials particularly when the denial of bail will cause irreparable damage to person and the family concerned. Only the persons, who are involved in murder, rape etc should be behind bars till conviction. Under no circumstances an under trial should be treated at par with convicted criminals particularly in light of the fact that various persons had undergone imprisonment during trial for a period much more than the sentence ultimately sentenced by court. In case court or GOI want to punish a person, best is to decide his/her case a reasonable period and not in years. In present case when a good number of persons are yet to charge sheeted, the presumption that if these ate released on bail will temper the evidence does not hold good by any standards of reasonable thinking. The law of land must prevail. As such we can only pray to courts to consider our humble submissions regarding segregation of under trial and convicted persons. Hence, while Facebook keeps its page open for profiles and corporate pages, it would be great to educate the Indian internet savvy urban or semi-urban masses on what is Social media marketing. If it comes from the horses mouth, it would be accepted more. Further, in any communication addressed to India, it is important to keep the social values practiced in India, in mind and to always be polite. It would be ideal if Facebook hired an Indian Social Media set up to do this work or set up its own office in India to make out this communication package.   Posted on Facebook on the hunt for Indian policy wonks   Ajmer_bains Kolkatans’ fetish for Dada is a bit puerile. In the next decade it will be embroiled in a battle for succession as Karunanidhi’s own political career is over. Support for the LTTE in Tamilnadu vanished the day Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated but continuing injustice to Sri Lankan Tamils evokes strong sympathy and anger against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka should take a lesson form history.
