Quicksplained: How a 23-year-old US woman is fighting for life after vaccine reaction

Any vaccine can cause side effects. In the majority of cases, these reactions are mild and may go away in a few days.

However, that’s not always the case.

In the US, a 23-year-old woman is facing a critical health crisis after a severe reaction due to vaccines administered at the UCI Medical Centre in California’s Orange County.

The woman, identified as Alexis Lorenze, was diagnosed with Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) in January and is currently fighting for her life.

What happened?

• Alexis Lorenze, 23, from Florida, first sought treatment at the hospital for a blood disorder and underwent a blood transfusion.

• While the procedure was effective initially, doctors reportedly advised her to update her vaccinations to fully recover.

• The Vaccine Safety Research Foundation (VSRF) report and other several reports say the young woman subsequently received Tetanus, Pneumococcal, and Meningitis vaccines at the hospital for her condition.

• After receiving the vaccines, Lorenze claimed she experienced severe reactions. Within ten minutes, she experienced a series of alarming symptoms, including temporary blindness, a locked jaw and vomiting.

• Lorenze and her dad Todd have been posting updates about her illness on Facebook and TikTok, among other social media sites.

• The disturbing photos and videos that Lorenze posted highlight the seriousness of her alleged vaccine reaction. Her face and body are covered in significant black-purple bruises, and her skin is red and irritated. Her eyes and forehead are swollen.

• The incident has provoked a wave of criticism with the hospital failing to issue an official statement. Many of Lorenze’s supporters offered their prayers and concerns to her on social media.

• Since her health is declining, VSRF has dispatched Registered Nurse Angela Wulbrecht along with a group of reliable medical professionals to help with her care.

• The hospital’s actions, according to Lorenze’s family, are to blame for her health’s rapid decline. She stated in one of her videos that she had spoken with a lawyer and was recording the entire situation.

• The father-daughter team has further claimed that the hospital transferred her to a tiny room without a bed for her sister, who is taking care of her after she started posting updates. Todd Lorenze announced on Facebook on Tuesday that Alexis would be moving to a new hospital the next day.

• Lorenze does not have health insurance in California and a fundraising campaign has been set up to collect funds for her care.

• Alexis’s example serves as a painful reminder of the complex nature underlying vaccination reactions.
