Vitamin D, also known as the sunshine vitamin, is more than just a nutrient. It plays a vital part in our body’s overall development, health and well-being.
The super nutrient is linked to everything from bone health to enhanced immunity. As Dr Mike Ren, an assistant professor in Baylor College of Medicine’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, was quoted as saying: “Vitamin D is well known to support bone health, but it also plays a role in the health of your heart as well as your GI tract.”
It’s important to note that the human body produces Vitamin D naturally when it’s directly exposed to sunlight. You can also get vitamin D from certain foods and supplements to ensure adequate levels of the vitamin in your blood.
Here’s everything you need to know about the super nutrient and who needs extra doses of it.
