Want to look powerful? Shave your head!

London:  Men with shaved heads are seen as tougher, powerful, taller, stronger and having greater potential as leaders, according to a US study. Researcher Albert Mannes from the University of Pennsylvania, and a balding man himself, carried out three experiments to look into how men who shaved their heads were perceived by others, the Daily Mail reported. [caption id=“attachment_475700” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Reuters[/caption] He said perceptions of dominance and masculinity extended to physical characteristics such as height and strength. In the first experiment, 60 participants were asked to look at a series of photos of men similar in age and attire but with differing amounts of hair. When the results were look into, shaved men topped the ratings in terms of how powerful, influential and authoritative they looked, the daily reported. In the second study, each man was shown twice, one with hair and once digitally made bald. Not only were the bald men perceived as more dominant, but they were also viewed as nearly an inch taller and 13 percent stronger. In the final experiment, participants were given written and verbal descriptions, where shaved men again got the highest marks for masculinity. However, men with a full mane of hair were still voted more attractive. The study was published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science. IANS
