Singapore: Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam has inaugurated a newly renovated, wifi-enabled, Central Sikh Gurdwara . The Singapore Sikh Community on Friday honoured Dr Tan with Saropa at the Darbar Sahib of the gurdwara, founded in 1918 by early Sikh migrants to the island-state, many of whom were part of the police force under the colonial British Raj. More than 800 Sikhs joined the inaugural ceremony. Located just off the “Little India” shopping precinct, the Gurdwara’s modern features include wifi internet, environment-friendly energy conservation lightings, and disabled-friendly facilities. Singapore’s 12,000-Sikh community has seven gurdwaras across the island. PTI
