Tripura Cong accuses CPI(M) of collaborating with insurgents

Agartala: Bringing a counter charge of fuelling insurgency by ruling CPI-M before the February 2012 elections in Tripura, the opposition Congress today alleged that the Left Front Government’s recent decision to withdraw 1300 criminal cases of 736 surrendered insurgents proved that the party was working as collaborator of the ultras. “The law department has issued notes to all the public prosecutors of the state to withdraw cases against 736 surrendered insurgents. The order was issued in complete violation of the guidelines of the MHA regarding surrendered insurgents because many insurgents were accused of rape and murder. [caption id=“attachment_359157” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Reuters”] [/caption] “It only proves that CPI(M) was acting as collaborator,” Tripura Pradesh Congress President Sudip Burman told reporters. The state secretary of ruling CPI-M, Bijan Dhar had recently alleged that a tribal leader of Congress was actively indulging a band of surrendered insurgents in recruiting youths in banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and extortion of money from construction farms for using them in the February 2012 elections. Burman said before the elections all the time, the ruling CPI-M allege that Congress was aiding and abetting insurgency for their political end, which is a deliberate attempt to divert the attention of people from their real problems for which the state government is responsible. He said that before 1978, when Congress was in power in Tripura there was no instance of riot or insurgency problem, but people of the state witnessed the riot in 1980 when CPI-M was at the helm of affairs. Burman alleged that CPI(M) leaders had called a meeting of the surrendered insurgents recently at Amarpur subdivision in Gomati district and held secret meeting and when it was exposed, party leaders stated that it was to convince them to refrain from crimes. He said “when CPI(M) was alleging that insurgents were shifting their base from neighbouring Bangladesh to Myanmar, I I would demand that the state government invite National Investigation Agency to come to Tripura and investigate who were collaborating with the insurgents for their political interest.” PTI
