Swami Agnivesh says PM should hold serious talks with Maoists

New Delhi: Terming the Chhattisgarh government’s initiative to form a high-powered committee to hold talks with Maoists as an “eyewash”, Swami Agnivesh on Wednesday demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s intervention in ensuring result-oriented talks with the extreme leftists. [caption id=“attachment_296447” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“AFP”] [/caption] Agnivesh claimed that the Maoists are releasing Sukma District Collector Alex Paul Menon solely on “humanitarian grounds”. “It is time for the Central government and the Prime Minister to step in and give a positive response by calling a ceasefire,” he said. The social activist suggested that the Central government should set up a committee having credible non-political persons like Justice Rajinder Sachar and former Chief Justice of India JS Verma to solve the Maoist problem.
