Sheila Dikshit gets relief in 2008 poll violation case

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today got relief in a case of alleged violation of election code by a court here which said there was not enough evidence to proceed against her, after which the police withdrew the complaint. Metropolitan Magistrate Vijeta Singh declared as “dismissed and withdrawn” the complaint, in which the chief minister was accused of violating the model code of conduct in 2008 assembly election. The police, in its application seeking withdrawal of the case, had said its records do not reflect that any loudspeaker or handheld hailer was seized during the probe. Om Prakash had lodged the complaint against Dikshit to the Chief Election Commissioner in November 2008 alleging she was using a handheld loud hailer for addressing the public in contravention of election rules in the assembly constituency under the jurisdiction of Mandir Marg police station here.
