Security ramped up in Delhi ahead of Independence day celebrations

New Delhi: Security personnel say they have put an elaborate ground to air apparatus in place to preempt any terror strikes during independence day celebrations in Delhi. Thousands of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in and around the city and the Union Home Ministry has issued a country-wide alert asking other states to also tighten security at sensitive locations and installations. [caption id=“attachment_57805” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“AFP”] [/caption]Around 40 CCTVs will be installed in and around the Red Fort where the Prime Minister will make his Independence day sppech and unfurl the national flag. According to a senior police official, the localities around Red Fort have been sanitised and informers have been deployed to keep a check on any movement of anti-national elements. An air defence mechanism has also been activated around the venue. An intense vigil will also be maintained on key installations like the parliament complex, the international airport, railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and Metro stations. Police have also asked operators of guest-houses, cyber cafes, telephone booths and taxi services to keep a watch on their customers and report any suspicious activity. Meanwhile owners of guest-houses and cyber cafes have been asked to install CCTVs and telephone booth operators have been instructed to keep separate registers of those making local, STD and ISD calls. Owners of guest houses and hotels will also be asked not to allow their guests to use hotel address for getting a mobile connection. PTI
