Ragpicker in China held for gnawing woman's face, biting cop

Beijing: A half-naked rag picker in a Chinese city has been detained for attacking a woman on her face in a street and even biting a police officer’s arm, Shanghai Daily reported. The woman, surnamed Pan, said the man accosted her on the street Saturday afternoon, pushed her into a corner and started to gnaw on her face. The woman received seven stitches on her face. Getty Images[/caption] “I shouted… but he kept seizing my head and suddenly bit me on the face,” Pan said. Police identified the man as a rag picker from Guangdong’s Zhanjiang city. He has been sent to hospital to check if he is mentally ill. The police saw the woman, with her face bleeding, running from the half-naked man, who was chasing her with a long shovel. “He seemed to be around 40 but looked very strong,” police officer Chen Dongsheng told reporters. The man beat the police officer when he tried to catch him, bit him on arm, and tried to jump on a passing truck to escape. But he was overpowered. IANS
