Poachers kill elephant in Assam, sever trunk, take away tusks
The local people claimed that the poachers had driven the tusker from the forests in Karbi Anglong hills before killing it.

Guwahati: The carcass of an adult elephant with its tusks removed was found today in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, the fifth pachyderm to die in the last one week.
The carcass was found by local people in Rangsali area under Rongbong police station in Karbi Anglong district bordering Golaghat district, official sources said today.

Few days back, another elephant was electrocuted while crossing an electric line in Assam. PTI
The elephant's trunk was severed and found a little distance while there were injury marks on the right leg, the sources said.
The local people claimed that the poachers had driven the tusker from the forests in Karbi Anglong hills before killing it.
The forest department took away the carcass for post-mortem.
