Kolkata: Asian Games gold medalist Pinki Pramanik today met West Bengal Sports Minister Madan Mitra and seeked a plot of land to set up an academy for budding athletes. We have advised her to apply for this in the concerned department,” Mitra said without giving any assurance. The Indian athlete, accused of being a man and raping her housemate, also requested the minister for an independent inquiry into the incident. The 26-year-old, who had won the 4x400m relay at the Doha Asiad, was arrested last month on the charge of rape and forced to undergo a gender test following accusations from a woman who lived in her flat.
