The Border Security Force has seized 5,290 bottles of a cough syrup, also abused as an intoxicant, valued at over Rs 4.5 lakh from India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal in two different operations, an official release said on Thursday.

New Delhi: The Border Security Force has seized 5,290 bottles of a cough syrup, also abused as an intoxicant, valued at over Rs 4.5 lakh from India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal in two different operations, an official release said on Thursday. It said that troopers of 130 Battalion BSF deployed at the Rajanagar border outpost in Murshidabad district seized 3,780 bottles of Phensedyl on Wednesday morning. In another operation the same day, troopers of the same battalion at the Bamnabad border outpost caught a man carrying 1,510 bottles of Phensedyl. The BSF troops also seized arms and ammunition from the Border in Malda district on Wednesday afternoon. The release said that troops of 125 Battalion BSF deployed at border outpost Sasani in Malda observed that some miscreants were trying to throw goods over the international boundary fence. “On being challenged by the troops, the miscreants fled. During a search, the BSF men recovered two country made pistols, four pistol magazines and 13 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition from the spot,” the release said. IANS
