New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari Thursday said a new Cinematograph Act will be unveiled soon. Briefing reporters here, Tewari informed that the film industry was expected to grow at over 11 percent in the coming years to take its turnover from about Rs.11,240 crore in 2012 to Rs.19,000 crore by 2017.

New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari Thursday said a new Cinematograph Act will be unveiled soon.

Briefing reporters here, Tewari informed that the film industry was expected to grow at over 11 percent in the coming years to take its turnover from about Rs.11,240 crore in 2012 to Rs.19,000 crore by 2017.

“The government is taking a number of steps to boost growth of film industry. We have looked at statutory architecture. Hopefully, we will soon have a new or amended Cinematograph Act,” Tewari told reporters here.

He was speaking at a ceremony to unveil 44th International Film Festival of India and the poster of 18th edition of International Children’s Film Festival India.

Tewari said the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee had submitted its report on issues concerning the Cinematograph Act to the Ministry and the draft bill had been put on the ministry’s website.

The committee revisited major areas of concern and made key recommendations on issues such as advisory panels, guidelines for certification and issues such as portrayal of women, obscenity and communal disharmony, classification of films, treatment of piracy, jurisdiction of the appellate tribunal, and review of provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
