[/caption] Colombo: The new leader of the Maldives has given the ex-president’s party four days to decide whether it wants to join a coalition government. The tourism-reliant Indian Ocean island nation has been in political turmoil since Mohamed Nasheed was replaced last week by his vice president after losing the support of the police and military over his order to fire a judge. President Mohammed Waheed Hassan formed a coalition government on Sunday to help restore stability in the Muslim country ahead of presidential elections due next year. On Thursday, Hassan sent a letter to Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party asking for its decision by Monday, according to a statement on the president’s website. AP
