Municipal polls: Over 300 centres sensitive, hyper-sensitive

New Delhi: A total of 55 polling stations have been identified as hyper-sensitive while 275 have been declared as sensitive out of 11,500 polling stations being set up for the Delhi municipal polls on Sunday. State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta today said most of the hyper sensitive and sensitive polling stations fall under assembly segments of Jamia Nagar, Seelampur and Chandni Chowk.[caption id=“attachment_275386” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Ready for polls. Reuters”] [/caption] “We have identified 55 polling stations as hyper sensitive and 275 as sensitive polling stations,” he said. Mehta said a total of 1.12 crore eligible voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the polls which include 42.95 lakh voters in North Delhi Municipal Corporation, 42.67 lakh voters in South Delhi corporation and 27.16 lakh voters in East Delhi corporation. Giving details about punitive action being taken against those found violating model code of conduct, Mehta said a total of 108 FIR have been filed against the offenders. He said a over 1,000 cases of violation of model code of conduct have been registered so far. Twelve poster removal squads have removed over 1,500 big hoardings put up without any permission from the authorities while 2,500 posters were also removed for the same offence. Elaborating steps to ensure free and fair polls, he said adequate number of police personnel are being deployed across the city besides and commission officials were keeping a close watch on any violation of election code of conduct. He said a total of 65 guns without license have been seized by police in the last few days in the city. PTI
