More youths in Tamil Nadu want to join army

Coimbatore: The number of job seekers in Army from Tamil Nadu this year has gone up by 40 percent compared to last year, a senior Army official said today. Last year nearly 30,000 candidates appeared for the recruitment rallies in the state while this year it had gone up to over 40,000, a 40 percent increase, Deputy Director General, Recruitment (States) Brig SB Sajjan said while briefing reporters about the ongoing recruitment rally in Coimbatore.[caption id=“attachment_1220527” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Indian Army soldiers. AFP Indian Army soldiers. AFP[/caption] Particularly there were more candidates from rural areas, he said, adding, that usually around 3,000 were recruited annually in the state. He said there would be annually about 5,000 to 6,000 vacancies of various posts from sepoy to commissioned officers in the Army. As far as remuneration, Sajjan said the force was giving a reasonable salary and the perks being extended were very high and not comparable with any other organisations. Expressing concern over the menace of touts, who were approaching candidates or their families with false promises of getting jobs in the Army, he asked the aspirants not to fall prey to such designs. The recruitment drive is being held here from 6 to 14 November for candidates belonging to 11 districts of the state. PTI
