More than 13,000 officials probed for corruption in China this year

Beijing: More than 13,000 officials were investigated in China in the first six months of this year on suspicion of corruption, the country’s anti-corruption bureau said today. “Prosecutors investigated 9,747 cases of public funds embezzlement and bribery with the total sum of money involved reaching USD 287 million,” said a statement issued by the anti-corruption bureau of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. This led the prosecutorial agencies to look into 13,842 officials across China. Of these, 7,132 were officials or workers working in administrative bodies at grassroots levels, state-run news agency Xinhua reported. PTI
