Los Angeles: Veteran star Meryl Streep, who won an Oscar for essaying the role of Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady”, has praised the former British prime minister as “a pioneer, willingly or unwillingly, for the role of women in politics.” Thatcher, referred to as Iron Lady, died of a stroke yesterday at the age of 87 in London, said the Hollywood Reporter. [caption id=“attachment_692695” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Agencies[/caption] “Margaret Thatcher was a pioneer, willingly or unwillingly, for the role of women in politics. It is hard to imagine a part of our current history that has not been affected by measures she put forward in the UK at the end of the 20th century,” Streep said in a statement. The 63-year-old also earned her third Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, Motion Picture Drama and her second BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. PTI
