Imphal: About 350 companies of para-military forces, including state armed forces, would be deployed for the forthcoming Manipur assembly elections on 28 January next, Manipur chief electoral officer PC Lawmkunga said today. He told media persons that about 200 companies of para military forces would arrive here on 10 January and besides this, state armed police would also be deployed.[caption id=“attachment_171027” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Guns and polls. Reuters”]  [/caption] The state police department, he said, was chalking out plans about the deployment of the forces during the one-day poll. About 17,40,820 voters, including 8,89,497 female voters would exercise their franchise during the polls where they would cast votes at 2,357 polling stations spread across valley and hill districts. Lawmkunga said about 13, 000 polling personnel would be used during the polls. Official sources said more than 50 income tax department personnel from the Centre have arrived to check the polling expenditures of the candidates in the forthcoming polls. PTI
