New Delhi: Lt Gen Anil Chait, a veteran Armoured Corps officer, today took over as the Central Army Commander in Lucknow, succeeding Lt Gen VK Ahluwalia who proceeded on superannuation. “Lt Gen Chait was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in 1973. He has commanded an Independent Armoured Brigade, an infantry division and the Ambala-based 2 Corps,” an army release said in New Delhi.[caption id=“attachment_229813” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“An Indian Army contingent. Image courtesy PIB”]  [/caption] The officer is a recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) during his tenure with the National Security Guard (NSG) and has served on operational staff assignment at the Line of Control during Operation Parakram, it said. As Commandant of the Army War College, he is credited with setting up of study centres for domain specialisation and its transformation for training of senior officers. Lt Gen Chait, who also attended the US Army War College, was awarded with the Medal of Excellence. He is also credited with successful conduct of the 4th edition of Military World Games. PTI
