If you were bad at math in school, chances are you had your teachers and parents tell you that even a baby could do it. Now, after watching this video, it would appear that even a dog can do basic mathematics. [caption id=“attachment_2273268” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] A screengrab from the video[/caption] The video shows a pet dog with its owner on the street in the Chinese city of Taiyuan solving simple math sums by ringing a bell. The owner of this canine calculator sits next to it and prompts it to answer the audience’s math question by ringing a lever-operated bell according to the correct answer. The video was uploaded by a passerby, after the mathematically-inclined pooch stunned everyone with its performance. The first test was the simplest math question, 1 + 1, and when the dog correctly rang the bell twice, there was a collective gasp from the audience. It could have been a coincidence, but then the dog went on to answer sums with increasingly higher numbers correctly, from 3 + 5 to 4 + 4 and even 5 + 5, proving that it had indeed mastered the art of single-digit addition at least. While we cannot say how the dog does it, the owner and audience seemed to be delighted by its arithmetic ability. Watch the full video here
However, this isn’t the first canine who has a penchant for numbers. There have been numerous videos on YouTube showing dogs being able to understand numbers and count. The most astounding among them are a dog ‘reading’ math sums and solving them.
