Lanka in UNHRC: Cong rules out threat to UPA from DMK

New Delhi: Congress today ruled out any threat to the government over DMK’s attempts to corner it on the issue of alleged human rights violations against Tamils in Sri Lanka. “I do not see any such possibility. DMK MPs were in full strength in the House today,” party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters when asked whether there was any threat to UPA from DMK MPs. [caption id=“attachment_247628” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=" The  government has so far been advocating a cautious approach on Sri Lanka. PTI"] [/caption] Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a leader dismissed the possibility of DMK ministers’ resignations on 23 March when the US-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka on alleged war crimes, which they want the government to support, comes up before the UN. “There will not be any resignation,” he said. MPs from Tamil Nadu have been pressuring the government to back the resolution categorically. The  government has so far been advocating a cautious approach. PTI
