IFS officer arrested for sexual assault in US

A 1985 batch IFS officer has been arrested in the US for allegedly sexually assaulting a female hotel employee. The officer, identified as Surendra Mohapatra was held in Pennsylvania, during a visit to the Syracuse university as part of a batch of over 30 officers who had gone for a mid-career training programme there. [caption id=“attachment_391556” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Reuters[/caption]NDTV who spoke to the Indian course coordinator quoted him as saying that Mr Mahapatra had a problem with his internet connection and asked the reception for help. A woman came to his room but was unable to fix it and so left, he said. Some time later, the police turned up and arrested him after the woman filed a complaint. Mr Bharghava had told the channel that Mr Mahapatra is an “old man and a “thorough gentleman”.
