Hazare's detention rocks Orissa Assembly

Kolkata: The detention of Anna Hazare and his aides by the Delhi police led to protest-rallies and demonstrations for the second day today with the Orissa Assembly thrown into turmoil and students in distant Arunachal Pradesh stalling traffic movement on the vital NH 52-A. AP”] [/caption] Orissa assembly was adjourned twice amid uproar as BJP and ruling BJD MLAs condemned the police action and sought a strong Jan Lokpal. BJP legislature party leader KV Singhdeo and party members described the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre as “murderer of democracy.” Shouting anti-UPA government slogans during question hour, BJP legislators stormed into the well of the House demanding tabling of a strong Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament. In some places of Orissa, protesters burned effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. Lawyers of Orissa High Court in Cuttack wore black badges and termed the action on Hazare as an assault on democracy and human rights. Students of SCB Medical College at Cuttack also expressed solidarity with the anti-graft movement by Hazare as reports of protest were received from several places including Bolangir, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Rourkela, Barbil, Keonjhar and Gunupur. Over 300 students of the North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology at Nirjuli in Arunachal Pradesh took out a procession in support of Anna Hazare which culminated near the deputy commissioner’s office at Naharlagun.
