Germany is signaling that its offer to keep hundreds of trainers in Afghanistan after US and other foreign combat forces leave the country next year is contingent on American and other soldiers being part of the training mission too. On Tuesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney said no decision had been made on how many U.S. troops will stay in Afghanistan and left open the possibility that no American soldiers will remain after 2014. But Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said Wednesday that all post-2014 commitments in Afghanistan “must be decided together and conducted together.” Schaefer added: “There will be no unilateral moves, and no German unilateral moves.” IANS
