WBHRC orders action on letter threatening Ganguly

Kolkata: The West Bengal Human Rights Commission Wednesday issued orders that action be taken against a woman law clerk who earlier sent a letter threatening to implicate its chairman AK Ganguly in a case of molestation. Asima Mallik, a clerk in Burdwan district court, addressed a letter to the office of the WBHRC in the city, threatening to implicate Ganguly in a case of molestation. “The letter, dated Sept 18, came to the notice of the Commission earlier this month and accordingly the West Bengal Law Clerk Council has been asked to initiate action against the said clerk within three weeks,” joint secretary of the Commission Sujay Kumar Haldar told IANS. Incidentally, Ganguly a former Supreme Court judge, has been accused of sexual harassment by a law intern. A three-judge panel of the apex court probed the matter and found him guilty of “unwelcome behaviour”. Ever since that indictment, strident demands have been made from several quarters that Ganguly resign as chief of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission. Ganguly, however, has rubbished the allegations against him and refused to resign. IANS
