Delhi Police ready for Anna's jail bharo movement

The Delhi police have identified four places for detaining participants of Anna’s ‘jail bharo’ campaign that is due to begin on Friday. A police statement said that they had written to Union Home Secretary Raj Kumar Singh, asking for permission to use the Sports Stadium, Bawana, Kingsway Camp Police Sports Ground, Ambedkar Stadium and DTC Parking Ground at the Lodhi Road. [caption id=“attachment_167647” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Reuters”] [/caption] Team Anna has vowed to fill the jails, and agitate outside the home of government MP’s and Congress leaders. Keeping with the strategy, Team Anna opened registrations for supporters to join his campaign and be part of the “Jail Bharo” movement through a website called Jailbharo.com. Through the site supporters can express their willingness to go to jail to protest the government’s bill and to lobby for the Jan Lokpal bill. Member of Team Anna, former cop and Magsaysay award winner, Kiran Bedi, heralded its opening on Twitter. She said, “B a Freedom fighter agnst corruption Register for Jail bharo. Sms to 575758 or call 07303150500 or http://bit.ly/vxUBRD “. At last count 170538 people had registered to be a part of the campaign. However given the low turnout for Anna’s fast in Mumbai and a similar rally in Delhi, it remains to be seen how many people will actually go through with courting arrest.
