Deutsche Telekom to cut about 4,000 jobs, says report

Frankfurt (Germany): German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom is likely to cut about 4,000 jobs worldwide, according to media reports.

The redundancy plan is expected to be carried out in a span of three years and would mainly hit its IT services business T-Systems, Xinhua cited from a Die Welt report.

It said Deutsche Telekom, which now employs some 50,000 people worldwide, is facing tough competition in the traditional IT outsourcing business, it said.

The situation is aggravated by newcomers who are fueling a price war.

Under the new plan, the T-Systems division will focus on the application of digital services such as internet in cars, according to the report.
