Gurdaspur: The indefinite curfew which was clamped in this town yesterday after tension mounted between Shiv Sena activists and Sikh youth continued today even as an uneasy calm prevailed in this border town of Punjab. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the town after the curfew was imposed, officials said here. Police had fired in the air to disperse a mob yesterday. Gurcharanjeet Singh, father of Jaspal Singh alleged that “his son was killed in police firing”. “I have enough proof of the firing, but police is shielding the culprits in uniform,” he said. [caption id=“attachment_261246” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“AFP”]  [/caption] He threatened that they would not allow the medical staff to conduct the post-mortem of his son, till an FIR with the name of culprits was registered. The bus services to and from Gurdaspur town remained suspended since yesterday. All shops, commercial establishments, educational institutions, banks and government offices were closed for the second successive day today. Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Mohinder Singh Kaith said that the situation was under control, but tense. Yesterday during a bandh call given by Shiv Sainiks seeking withdrawal of cases registered against 14 Hindus during the Punjab bandh call on 28 March, a clash took place between two groups and police fired in air to disperse the mob.
