Craig McDermott quits as Australia bowling coach

Former test fast bowler Craig McDermott has quit as Cricket Australia’s bowling coach after just one year because of the national team’s heavy touring schedule. McDermott had been praised for his work with Australia’s bowling attack, credited with turning around the form of pacemen such as Ben Hilfenhaus. [caption id=“attachment_306335” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“McDermott took 291 wickets in 71 tests. Reuters”] [/caption] The 47-year-old McDermott said in a statement Friday that “looking at the upcoming touring demands, I felt this to be the right decision from a personal and professional point of view.” He took 291 wickets in 71 tests at an average of 28.63, including 14 five-wicket hauls in an innings, and led the Australian fast-bowling attack in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
