China was slow to support the rebels in Libya’s revolution last year. In September, it became the last member of the UN Security Council to formally recognise the transitional council as the country’s ruling authority. It did so only after Beijing was provided with assurances that business contracts signed under late Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi would continue to be honored. China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday that a Ministry of Commerce team arrived in Tripoli on Saturday night to talk with Libyan officials about uncompleted projects and to check on damage to Chinese assets.
