In an attempt to help attain self-sufficiency in rice production, the north-eastern states will get Rs 100 crore this year from the agriculture ministry under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM).[caption id=“attachment_360407” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Boosting rice production. Reuters”]  [/caption] “All the eight north-eastern states, including Sikkim, are being covered under NFSM-rice this year. Till last year, only Assam was covered under NFSM-rice,” a release said today. The fund will be used for many activities including seed distribution, soil management, pest control, machines and tools, training and field demonstrations. “The interventions planned under NFSM are likely to improve rice yield, which is low in the northern-eastern states.
