CBI seeks clarification from Army chief on his complaint

New Delhi: The CBI has sought time from the office of Army Chief General VK Singh to clarify some points in his complaint in which he had alleged that Lt General Tejinder Singh had offered him bribe on behalf of Vectra Chairman Ravinder Rishi to clear supply of “sub-standard” Tatra vehicles. The CBI has started probe into the Army Chief’s complaint by registering a preliminary enquiry (PE) alleging that retired Lt General Tejinder Singh had offered bribe on behalf of Ravinder Rishi, CBI sources said. [caption id=“attachment_274379” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“The agency wants to clarify some points in Gen VK Singh’s complaint.  AFP Photo”] [/caption] The agency wants to clarify some points in the complaint  wherein the Army Chief had said that there was no urgency to purchase the Tatra BEML trucks and had put brakes on the deal, CBI sources said. They said the office of Army chief had informed them that since he is out of station, the date could be confirmed only when he returns to the national capital. Both Rishi and Tejinder Singh have refuted the allegations. Tejinder Singh has filed a defamation case against the Army Chief and other senior officials of the force. A PE is formal initiation of probe before registering an FIR but during this phase the agency does not have powers to question, search or arrest. The CBI might convert the PE into an FIR if it finds prima-facie evidence of any alleged wrong-doing. PTI
