Power major Reliance Power said that its two units of its 600 MW Butibori thermal power plant in Maharashtra have started generating electricity. RPower has invested Rs 3,600 crore in the Butibori plant.

RPower's Maha plant begins electricity generation

Reliance Power said the first two units of its 600 MW Butibori thermal power plant in Maharashtra have started generating electricity.

“Reliance Power has synchronised the first of two units of its 600 MW Butibori thermal power project near Nagpur in Maharashtra,” the Anil Ambani group company said in a statement. Synchronisation of power project means that electricity generation has started from the project but the station is yet to be connected to the national grid.

RPower has invested Rs 3,600 crore in the Butibori plant. The project may be fully commissioned before the end of the calender year, RPower said, adding that the entire ash generated by the new plant will be utilised by Reliance Group’s own cement plant.

The company has an operating capacity of 1,540 MW from all sources of energy. “With Butibori our operating capacity goes up to 1,540 MW, the projects under construction are progressing satisfactorily,” Reliance Power CEO J P Chalasani said in the statement.

The company also operates 1,200 MW thermal power plant at Rosa in Uttar Pradesh. Shares of the company were trading at Rs 101.35, up 1.86 percent on the BSE in the morning trade.
