Competition Commission Chairman Ashok Chawla today emphasised on the need to encourage competitive practices as well as transparency in public procurement activities.
Speaking at a conference on ‘Curbing Deficit through Effective Competition in Public Procurement’, he also gave suggestions to introduce and increase competition and transparency in the procurement practices that could also help in reducing fiscal and revenue deficit of the government.

Chawla also gave suggestions to introduce and increase competition and transparency in the procurement practices that could also help in reducing fiscal and revenue deficit of the government. He said procurement agencies have to be alive to market information and optimise and maximise the bidders to ensure healthy competition.
As per the release, Chawla advised the procurement officers to be well aware of the technical specifications, tender process and ensure evaluation of the bidding process so as to have a competition compliant public procurement.
More than 100 representatives from over 30 ministries and departments of the central government participated in the conference
