Amway eyes TN, Gujarat for manufacturing plant worth Rs 400 cr

DIrect-selling FMCG retailer Amway is looking at setting up manufacturing plants worth Rs 400 crore in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. This will be the company’s first plant in India.

Direct selling FMCG company Amway has shortlisted Tamil Nadu and Gujarat for setting up its Rs 400-crore manufacturing facility, a top company official said.

“With a 19 per cent growth in business turnover, Tamil Nadu is contributing more than 30 percent. The company prefers the state to set up its Rs 400-crore manufacturing plant, with good air and sea connectivity for bringing in raw materials,” Rajat Banerjee, Head, Corporate Affairs, Amway, said.

Being the leading market for Amway, Tamil Nadu may become a hub for the company in the coming years, he said. Amway does not have its own production facility in India. It gets products through seven third party contract manufacturers.

The company,which registered a turnover of Rs 2,130 crore in 2011 as against Rs 1,790 crore in 2010,is expected to cross Rs 2,500 crore in 2012, Banerjee, here to launch the flagship brand ‘Nurtilite Health-ageing range of products and Attitude whitening cream for fair and flawless complexion, said.

The contribution of Nutrilite grew from Rs 903 crore in 2010 to Rs 1,106 crore in 2011, a growth of 22 per cent, Siva Kumar, Area Manager, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, said.

The company also opened a second office in the city, which is among the top three markets in Tamil Nadu,which is expected to grow at the rate of 25 percent, he said.
