Bhupathi and I are still adjusting: Bopanna

Bangalore: Doubles specialist Rohan Bopanna today said it would take some more time for him and senior partner Mahesh Bhupathi to get adjusted to each other before they strike a right chord on ATP circuit. “Bhupathi and I are still getting adjusted to each other. We are learning from our strengths and weaknesses. Yes it does take a while before we strike a right chord (to meet big challenges ahead),” Bopanna said. The Bhupathi-Bopanna combine had recently won the doubles title at the Dubai championship. He is an experienced player and has played at highest level … this helps,” he said. Remembering Bhupathi’s vital tips in Davis Cup matches, Bopanna said, “There are senior players backing you at crucial stages of the matches. Definitely, this is a positive sign.” Bopanna said he and Bhupathi were focusing on improving their tennis and winning titles and a medal in the London Olympics, rather than concentrating on what critics say. “We are not here to silence critics. We chose each other to see how we could do as a team and work as a team,” he said. Asked about his chances in the London Olympics, Bopanna said his goal was to win a medal for the country. On his friendship with former doubles partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Bopanna said the Pakistani was much closer to him as a friend than a doubles partner. “That is something special. I was happy to be a part of his wedding ceremony in Lahore,” he said. Asked whether he would partner with Qureshi again after London Olympics, Bopanna said it could be a possibility. PTI
