The profit before tax registered in 2011-12 was Rs 3,120 crore as against Rs 3,253 crore registered in 2010-11.

The dip in profit is attributed to market pressure demanding cost and cycle time reduction, escalation of wage bill and fuel cost and power crisis in Tamil Nadu.

Talking to reporters here today, A V Krishnan, Executive Director of the BHEL unit here said: “In terms of tonnage, there was an all-time high production of over 7 lakh tonnes. This year, our projection is to achieve an output of 7.13 lakh tonnes by way of boiler components and accessories meant for thermal power generation across the country.” He said the BHEL unit is targeting a turnover of Rs 17,251 crore this fiscal.

Despite a slowdown in power sector due to various reasons, orders received during last year was to the tune of Rs 5,456 crore. As of now, the outstanding order position had accrued to Rs 28,294 crore which has to be executed over the current year and the next year.
