Guwahati: The Assam Human Rights Commission today said it had ordered an enquiry within 30 days into the role of three policemen during a brutal attack on an advocate and his son at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district on 3 June and subsequent death of his son. The Commission said in a release that Jhankar Saikia and his advocate father Haren Saikia were severely assaulted by some autorickshaw drivers and some others “in the presence of an ASI of police, one police havildar and one home guard”.[caption id=“attachment_932181” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Facing flak. Reuters[/caption] Through an order on 3 July, the AHRC had asked for an enquiry to be conducted by the commissioner and secretary of the department of home of the state government. “The enquiry was directed to take into special account of the alleged roles and the activities of the three police personnel in the course of the incident,” the release said. The father-son due were attacked after an altercation over payment of fare amounting to just Rs 10. The injured boy was shifted to the Dispur Hospital at Guwahati, but he succumbed to his injuries on 1 July. His father has been undergoing medical treatment for his injuries received from the attackers, official sources said. PTI
