 "Argentina declassifies critical report on 1982 war")
Buenos Aires: Argentina has finally made public an extremely critical and secret report of the mistakes made by its military dictatorship in its war against Britain to recover the Falkland Islands in 1982.[caption id=“attachment_254412” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez speaks at Government Palace in Buenos Aires. AP”]  [/caption] The so-called Rattenbach report was so critical of the military junta that Argentina’s last dictator ordered it kept secret for 50 years. President Cristina Fernandez says she ordered its declassification to show that Argentina “will always be on the side of peace”, part of an ongoing effort to blame the junta and not the Argentine people for the failed war. It’s now available for all to see on the presidential website, just ahead of the 2 April anniversary of Argentina’s occupation of the islands they call the “Malvinas”. AP
