Amy Winehouse foundation raises 1.9 million pounds in a year

London: Amy Winehouse foundation, named after the singer, raised almost 1.9 million pounds in a year. The charity organisation that works to prevent drug and alcohol abuse, is run by the singer’s father Mitch Winehouse, reported Sun online. [caption id=“attachment_807117” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Reuters[/caption] Amy died of alcohol poisoning on July, 2011 at an age of 27. Around 700,000 pounds came from her father’s book about Amy while 103,000 pounds were collected from the ball held in her name. The money earned from Amy’s posthumous album Lioness: Hidden Treasures was 700,000 pounds. The family gave 340,000 pounds to disadvantaged young people and promising musicians. They have funded scholarships to London’s Sylvia Young Theatre School and given 20,000 pounds to help people with Multiple sclerosis. Around 60 young homeless in Amy’s old north London haunt, Camden, are provided a daily hot meal. “We are honoured we can help so many young people in Amy’s name,” Mitch said. PTI
