Bhopal: Fifty-one trucks carrying sand illegally mined worth crores have been seized in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday. The trucks were loaded with illegally mined sand from the banks of the river Tawa. They have been seized in a single raid. The raid was jointly conducted by the police, revenue and mining department officials. Recently, the Supreme Court ruled that all mining activity close to river banks needed the permission of the state green panel. This seizure is significant in the light of the Supreme Court ruling that all sand mining along river beds need to have the approval of the Green Bench of the state. On August 7, CNN-IBN had shown how illegal sand mining was rampant on the banks of river Tawa in Sohagpur.
