Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has finally broken his silence on his divorce from actor Dhanashree Verma after nearly four years of marriage. As per reports, Chahal and Dhanashree were living separately for over 18 months before the divorce, which became official in February 2025.
Now, on a podcast with Raj Shamani, Chahal revealed that the rift in their marriage occurred because both were busy with their respective lives. However, he and Dhanashree decided to continue presenting themselves as a couple until a final decision was made.
“It had been going on for a while but we decided that we don’t want to show the world what’s happening until something gets finalised,” Chahal told Shamani. “What if nothing happened?”
Chahal was also asked if they were faking their relationship during the rift, to which the cricketer nodded in agreement.
Chahal breaks silence on divorce from Dhanashree
The 35-year-old leg-spinner revealed that he was forced to take a month-long break from cricket as he was not enjoying it due to troubles in his personal life. “I asked for a break from Vijay Hazare Trophy because I was not able to use my mind. Cricket gave me happiness, and continues to make me happy and if I am not able to do that, then something is wrong so I took a month long break,” Chahal said.
Chahal hit back at the allegations of cheating and added that people close to him already knew the truth, which is why he didn’t make any public comments about the allegations.
“And I have never cheated in my life. I am not that person. You will never find anyone as loyal as me,” he added.
The Punjab Kings cricketer also shared that the troubling situation in his personal life was so tough that it gave him anxiety attacks and suicidal thoughts, but his family and RJ Mahvash helped him recover from that phase.

“Kyunki saamne se kuch cheez hua tha, aur mera pehle mann nahi tha. Fir saamne se kuch hua toh fir maine kaaha ab sambhaal lo, ab mujhe nahi parwah kisi ki. Maine na kisi ko abuse kra, bus mujhe message dena tha (Something happened from the other side, and I didn’t initially intend to respond. But then something happened, and I thought, ‘Enough is enough, now I don’t care about anyone.’ I didn’t abuse anyone; I just wanted to convey my message),” Chahal said.
Social media users linked the message on Chahal’s t-shirt to the alimony he had to pay to Dhanashree. As per the report, Chahal paid an alimony of Rs 4.75 crore.
