Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on what would have been his third double-century for India in the five-day format after getting involved in a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies in Delhi on Saturday.
Jaiswal bounced back in style after his blip in the series opener in Ahmedabad, where he had been dismissed for 36, by bringing up his seventh Test hundred at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday. The southpaw went past the three-figure mark for the second time in his last three outings in the format and was batting on 173 at close of play on Day 1.
The 23-year-old, however, added just two runs to his overnight score before getting involved in a huge mix-up with Gill in the second over of the day. Jaiswal dashed towards the non-striker’s end after driving towards mid off, and was more than halfway down the pitch when he was sent back by his partner, because of which he couldn’t make it to the popping crease at his end on time.
Jaiswal clearly unhappy with Gill after getting run-out
Gifting a wicket with a run-out while nearing a major milestone such as a Test double-century can be infuriating for a batter, and Jaiswal did not hide his emotions after his dismissal on Saturday.
The opener was seen hitting his forehead with his palm and making animated gestures towards Gill, suggesting that the skipper should have paid heed to his call rather than watch the ball and stay put at his end, though it did appear a tight call from the former.

Jaiswal thus departed after scoring 175 off 258 deliveries, collecting 22 fours along the way and forging a 193-run second-wicket partnership with B Sai Sudharsan (87) – who also missed out on a milestone on the opening day after falling 13 short of his maiden Test century.

More ShortsGill would later go on to bring up his second consecutive half-century, steering India past 400 for the second time in as many matches against the West Indians.
The 26-year-old added 91 for the fourth wicket with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who walked in at No 5 and chipped in with a handy 43 off 54 deliveries before becoming left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican’s third wicket of the innings.
India currently lead the two-Test series 1-0 after their innings and 140-run victory in Ahmedabad and will be aiming to complete a 2-0 sweep in the national capital in order to boost their position on the ICC World Test Championship table.
