Women’s Premier League (WPL) - the flagship T20 franchise tournament in women’s cricket - is set to enter its second season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced the competition last year, with five teams featuring in the inaugural edition. The number of teams remains unchanged this year. The 2024 WPL will commence on February 23, with last season’s finalists – Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals going head-to-head in the opening match. The big-ticket clash will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru at 7:30 PM IST. WPL 2024 Venues: The showpiece tournament will be hosted across two venues this time. All matches till March 4 will take place in Bengaluru, while Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium has the hosting rights for the rest of the fixtures including the knockout games. The final of the 2024 WPL is scheduled for March 17. WPL 2024 Format: The format of the tournament will also be the same as the first edition. All five teams will take on each other twice during the group stage. Based on their points, the team finishing at the top of the table will secure a direct entry into the WPL final. The Eliminator will feature the second and third-placed sides and the winners of the clash will punch their tickets to the summit showdown. About WPL 2023: Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians clinched the inaugural WPL title by triumphing over Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium. As they finished second in the league standings, the Mumbai-based franchise had to overcome UP Warriorz in the Eliminator to set up the final against table-topper Delhi Capitals. Throwback to WPL 2024 Auction: All teams made a few modifications to the squad at the WPL auction , which was held in Mumbai in December last year. Annabel Sutherland became the most expensive overseas player after Delhi Capitals signed the Australian all-rounder for Rs 2 crore. Uncapped Indian player Kashvee Gautam joined Gujarat Giants for the same amount. Players unavailable for WPL 2024: A few players of the England women’s team have withdrawn their names from the 2024 WPL as they are set to play a white-ball series against New Zealand during that period. Captain Heather Knight, who represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous edition, has been replaced by South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk. UP Warriors will miss the services of pacer Lauren Bell, with Chamari Athapaththu having been roped in as her replacement. WPL 2024 LIVE Streaming and TV Channel: The WPL 2024 matches will be live streamed on Jio Cinema and broadcast will be available on Sports 18 HD/SD TV channels.
