The 13th edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup , the oldest global tournament in the sport that precedes the men’s World Cup by a couple of years, is set to take get underway less than a month from now with the opening game between co-hosts India and Sri Lanka taking place in Guwahati on Tuesday, 30 September.
And what makes this tournament unique is the fact that it is set to be the most affordable ICC global event in the history of the sport. Tickets for the upcoming event, after all, were released at a record low base price of Rs 100 (USD 1.14) on Thursday at the start of a four-day pre-sale window.
The tickets for the previous edition of the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand three years ago had cost 7 NZD for and 17 NZD for adults, which translates approximately to INR 354 (USD 4.70) and INR 861 (USD 11.43) respectively, going by the exchange rates in March 2022 when the tournament got underway.
It’s not just the record low ticket prices that sets this tournament apart – the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup will also carry a total prize money of $13.88 million – which marks a whopping 297 per cent rise from the previous edition three years ago. This surpasses the $10 million prize money that was on offer for the last men’s ICC World Cup, which had been hosted entirely in India two years ago.
While the winner and the runner-up will receive $4.48 million and $2.24 million respectively, with the losing teams taking home $1.12 million each, each of the eight participating teams is guaranteed to earn a minimum of $250,000. Additionally, each victory in the group stage that will be taking place in the round-robin format will carry a separate reward of $34,314.

In addition to the ticket prices, the International Cricket Council (ICC) also confirmed renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal as a performer in the opening ceremony that will be taking place before the tournament opener at Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium later this month.
Australia are the defending champions in the tournament, having won their seventh title with a 71-run victory over then-defending champions England in Christchurch in April, 2022.
England are the second-most successful team in the World Cup history with four titles, including in the inaugural edition in 1973, while New Zealand (2000) is the only other team besides the Ashes rivals to have been crowned ODI world champions.
India, meanwhile, have finished runners-up twice – in 2005 and 2017 under the leadership of Anjum Chopra and Mithali Raj respectively – and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought in the tournament that concludes on 2 November.
